Baseball Life 101

I figured I would give everyone a little rundown on what it looks like to live the minor league baseball life. This will be Dalton's third season playing and my first season traveling with him full time. Most people that I talk to don't really have an understanding of how professional baseball works after a player gets drafted. Unlike most other sports, when someone gets drafted, they don't go straight to a big league, or what most see as a "professional" team right away. After the draft, the player typically has to work their way up the ladder within the minor league levels which include: rookie ball, low A, high A, double A and triple A. After triple A comes the big league teams! The players can get moved through the levels however the organizations please. Up or down, as many times a year as they need to, with little to no warning. This can leave players in super sticky situations with housing. Most apartments require leases and then when players get moved, they are stuck with the responsibility of trying to break the lease, or are must keep paying. When Dalton got moved up this past season, they gave him the news late one night after a game and they had a flight booked the next morning at 7:30am. He had to pack up his entire place and clean his room that night, and ended up getting just a couple hours of sleep. He was super excited to get the call up so he didn't really mind, and that's usually the way it goes. Dalton is chasing his dream and loves playing the game, so the grind of moving and housing and figuring out all the other details become null to the positives.

All of this to say, when the airstream opportunity came about, we took all of these factors into consideration. When your home is on wheels, a lot of these specific road blocks aren't an issue anymore. We have everything we need in the trailer with us, and we don’t have to worry about apartment hunting and then buying or renting everything to furnish it. When we move for the season, we just hook up to the truck and drive to the next destination with all our belongings in tow. No packing and unpacking.

I know baseball can be totally confusing (trust me, I still feel like I know nothing), and this crazy lifestyle has definitely kept us on our toes. At the end of the day we are so thankful for this game and for all of the people we have met along the way. We are super excited to have a home on wheels as an asset for us as Dalton chases his dream.
